Programs & Curriculum

Our daycare works hard to stay posted on the most up-to-date teaching methods.  We are constantly changing our curriculum but maintain basic methods that we believe nurture children’s learning.  Our methods are exemplified in the activities we do with the kids.

Our activities are in the fields of:

We like kids to learn by doing things themselves and provide them with an endless amount of enthusiasm as well as tools to explore with.  Our daycare is filled with toys, games, musical instruments, books and computers.

Each day, you will receive a progress report so that you are kept updated on how and what they did that day, how much they ate, and what their mood was like.  Also, often you child will be taking with them a “home version” of a story or song we talked about during the day, so that you can repeat it with them at home.

Infants

At Capital Child Day Care we welcome infants and young children. Our Crib Room is cheerful, clean, quiet and is supported by a patient, gentle and caring staff. We know that a child’s learning begins with cuddling and cooing, face and object recognition and exploration of the surrounding world. Each child is both calmed and stimulated with one-on-one contact as well as music, play and interaction throughout the day. We are dedicated to following through with skills being learned at home and keep in constant touch with each parent. Telephone lines to the infant room are always open for you should you wish to call and check up on your baby.

Happiness, we believe, leads to learning. Cooing, humming and rocking are most important in these early stages of life. This we combine with careful feeding and diaper care. Old stand-by favorites like “This Little Piggy” and “Peek-a-Boo” are not forgotten as we care for our babies’ needs. When the time comes that a child is ready for potty-training, our teachers are skilled at encouraging them to develop this skill.

18 Months – 2 Years

In our bright and cheerful Toddler Room youngsters safely explore their natural curiosity. Books, safe toys and learning tools are always within their reach and ready to be experienced. Our teachers are skilled in helping the children learn to make friends and interact with each other. They understand the necessity of patience and humor while leading these energetic youngsters.

Each day brings new skills to experience - from finger painting and simple crafts to climbing and sliding - from quiet story times to the sharing at meals and snacks. Understanding guidance is given to each child as he or she learns the skills of potty training. And although two year olds tend to keep us on the run, our staff always finds time to communicate with you, the parent, and keep you in touch with your children’s progress.

At Capital Child Day Care we understand that children develop their own individual speed. Our teachers are skilled in helping each one reach his or her full potential.

2 Years to Three Years

Each of our classrooms is designed with furniture and toys to fit its particular age group. Sleeping mats and blankets are supplied for each child. Mats are cleaned and blankets are washed nightly. Children are also welcome to bring their own blankets from home if they desire.

As our older toddlers play and interact we emphasize socialization and self-help skills. With potty training we realize that children develop at their own pace and work together with their parents to help achieve success. At this age youngsters share experiences, learning also from each other as they strive successfully to use the potty, put on their coats, wash their hands, share and pick up their toys. Learning is made fun so that they don’t even realize that they are being schooled.

4 and 5 Years

These children also have their own special program geared to get them ready for First Grade. Positive methods are used to teach them good behavior skills that will aid them in achieving future academic success. Within this structure we encourage each child’s growing independence by giving them the freedom to grow. The children interact both in the cheerful classroom and in our exclusive, safe indoor playground. (See Our Facility)

5 and 6 Years

Capital Child Day Care is open Monday through Friday, from 7 am to 6 pm, offering a secure environment for youngsters both all day and/or after school. We provide Pick-Up and Drop-Off transportation for these children as well as nourishing meals and snacks. After school children have their own area where they are able to do their homework and prepare for the next day. Our teachers are there to help with these tasks.
At Capital Child Day Care children are encouraged to explore science, math, reading, music, art and even computers. There is structured time for quiet as well as time for running and playing with their friends. A secure and friendly environment, we feel, is essential to growth and development. Learning should be a happy and safe experience. At Capital Child Day Care that is our daily goal.
